Baseball Scales Allegheny (Pa.) in Last-Minute Matchup

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Allegheny (Pa.) College by a final score of 10-7 in a non-conference game at Robert M. Garbark Field.

BW (18-11) headed east to Meadville after scheduling a game with Allegheny (17-11) just a few hours before gametime, but the quick turnaround did not slow the Jackets. The Brown and Gold went on to score 10 runs on 10 hits including a seven-run fourth to take down the Gators.

Scoring Plays

  • Top 3rd - Sophomore designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) came up with the bases loaded and no outs to deliver a sac fly and to get the Jackets on the board
  • Top 3rd - Senior second baseman Grant Mitchell (Avon) hit an RBI-single to tie things up at two apiece
  • Top 4th- Senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) drew the bases-loaded walk to give BW the lead
  • Top 4th - West picked up his second RBI of the day with a single to right
  • Top 4th - Mitchell took a heater to the back of the leg with the bases loaded to bring in another run
  • Top 4th - Junior All-OAC shortstop Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) broke it open with a bases-loaded double to bring in two runs
  • Top 4th - Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) got in on the action with a two-run single
  • Top 8th - Kolenich smacked his first homer of the year with a solo shot 
At the Plate
  • Kolenich led the Brown and Gold going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base
  • West, Mitchell, and English each recorded two RBI 
  • Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) extends his hit streak to five games and has had a multi-hit game in four of his last five

On the Mound

  • Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) went four innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts
  • Junior All-OAC right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) pitched 1.2 innings allowing three earned runs on five hits
  • Sophomore right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) picked up his first career win after throwing 1.2 innings in relief where he tallied a strikeout and allowed one run on three walks
  • Senior Academic All-OAC right-hander Kade Swisher (Berea/Berea-Midpark) earns BW's second save of the season after retiring all four batters in 1.2 innings
