BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior softball right-handed pitcher
Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) became the winningest pitcher in school history as the No. 21 nationally ranked Yellow Jackets swept a non-conference doubleheader over Hiram College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.
BW (26-2) won the first game by a final score 5-0. The Yellow Jackets took the night cap in thrilling fashion with a walk-off grand slam in the fifth inning to secure the 10-2 victory.
In game one, BW scored five runs on six hits as they plated three runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings. Hiram was held scoreless on four hits.
At the Plate
- Junior right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-3 with two runs batted-in (RBIs)
- Four other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock highlighted by the RBI single from All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald)
In the Circle
- Hall earned her 16th win of the season to claim her school-record 45th career victory. She did not allow a run on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, BW scored 10 runs on 14 hits as they plated two runs in the first inning off the homerun by junior All-OAC designated hitter
Maddie Lester (Boardman), one in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth off the grand slam by
Lester. The Terriers scored two runs on five hits as they pushed both their runs across the plate in the second.
At the Plate
- Lester had a career-high four hits (4-for-4) with a career-best tying homeruns, including a career-high tying grand slam, two runs scored, and a career-best seven RBIs
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI
- Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a double
- Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke had a career-high two hits (2-for-3) with a run scored and stolen base
- Wolford went 2-for-4 with a double and career-best tying three runs scored
In the Circle
- Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) won her seventh game of the season as she allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 26 when they host an OAC and Seniors' Day doubleheader against Capital University at 1 p.m.
