CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was defeated by No. 17 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University in walk-off fashion by a final score of 10-9 in a non-conference game at Nobby's Ballpark.
Scoring Plays
- Top 2nd - Senior Academic All-OAC third baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) teed off for his first home run of the season to put the Yellow Jackets up early
- Top 3rd - Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) put BW back on top with another solo home run
- Top 4th - Senior Academic All-OAC catcher Eric Coode (Painesville/Mentor) found the gap in right to drive in a run sparking a huge inning for the Brown and Gold
- Top 4th - Carinci reached on an infield single to bring in a run and put the Brown and Gold up by a pair
- Top 4th - Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) stayed hot with an RBI double down the line
- Top 4th - Sophomore designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) grounded out but was able to extend the lead by bringing in Carinci
- Top 4th - English picked up another extra base hit with a two-out triple
- Top 4th - English drew a bad throw by the Spartans' backstop allowing him to score from third
- Top 5th - Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) notched an RBI single to give the Jackets a seven-run advantage
At the Plate
- English and Carinci each led the team with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored
- Coode finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run
- Senior second baseman Grant Mitchell (Avon) was the fourth Jacket with a multi-hit game after recording a single and a double
On the Mound
- Sophomore right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) went seven innings but reached a no-decision as he struck out six and allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and two walks
- Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) pitched 1.2 innings in relief where he allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk but got tabbed with the loss after the Spartans' walk-off single
