No. 25 Softball Closes Out 2025 Campaign in NCAA Regional Tournament

ANGOLA, Ind. – The No. 25 nationally ranked and second-seeded Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out its season as it dropped a pair of games at the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by No. 5 nationally ranked and top-seeded Trine University on SportOne/Parkview Softball Field.

BW (32-6) fell to Trine (38-5) in the winners bracket game by a final score of 9-1.  The Yellow Jackets fell third-seeded the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire (29-15) in an elimination extra inning thriller by a final score 8-7 in 10 innings.  

Against Trine, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on four hits as it plated its lone run in the first inning off the solo shot from junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference designated player/right-handed pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman).   The Thunder scored nine runs on 11 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the first inning, two in the fourth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh.

At the Plate
  • Lester went 1-for-3 with a homerun, run scored and a run batted-in
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 1-for-3 with a stolen base
  • Junior All-OAC right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 1-for-3
  • Sophomore All-OAC left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 1-for-3
In the Circle
  • Junior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) suffered her first loss of the season (9-1) as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks in five innings pitched
  • Lester allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk in the final two innings pitched
Against the Eau Claire, BW scored seven runs on hits as they plated two runs in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth.  The Bluegolds scored eight runs on 11 hits as they pushed five runs across the plate in the fifth, two in the seventh and the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

At the Plate
  • Peterkoski went 2-for-5 with a career-best tying two doubles, run scored, two RBIs and a walk
  • Mraz went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-6 with a run scored
  • Sophomore All-OAC third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a walk
  • Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and stolen baser
In the Circle
  • Senior All-OAC righty Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) got the start and no decision as she allowed three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks in four innings pitched
  • Lester allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit with one walk without recording an out
  • Barnhart allowed two runs on four hits with two walks in two innings pitched
  • Freshman right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) suffered the allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched
