SALISBURY, Md. - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Ramapo College of New Jersey in the first round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by Salisbury (Md.) University by a final score of 19-7 at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Stadium.
BW (31-13) got the scoring started early and often by taking a one-run lead in the first and following that up by scoring 11 over the next two frames. Ramapo (27-15) scored three in the fourth, but the Yellow Jackets followed with a three-run inning of their own and tacked on some runs in the late innings to set a program record for the most runs scored in an NCAA Tournament game.
Scoring Plays
- Bottom 1st - Senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) scored the first run of the tournament thanks to a Roadrunner wild pitch
- Bottom 2nd - Sophomore catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) laid down a bunt single to no-man's land allowing the runners to advance and a run to score
- Bottom 2nd - Marousek hit a high chopper as sophomore second baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) scored from second to complete the hit-and-run
- Bottom 2nd - Senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) smacked a double off the wall in right to score two more for the Jackets
- Bottom 2nd - Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) singled through the right side to score Kilbane
- Bottom 2nd - Junior All-OAC third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) beat out a ball in the infield for a single allowing Ritlinger-Nirider to score
- Bottom 3rd - Marousek picked up another RBI after reaching on a fielder's choice
- Bottom 3rd - Senior All-OAC right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) got in on the action by delivering an RBI single through the left side
- Bottom 3rd - Kilbane put the Brown and Gold up by 10 with a moonshot over the scoreboard in left center
- Bottom 5th - The Roadrunners intentionally walked Kilbane, but Ritlinger-Nirider made them pay by teeing off on a three-run homer
- Bottom 7th - Ritlinger-Nirider fouled out but was able to bring in another run as Carinci tagged from third
- Bottom 7th - Kilbane scored on Ramapo's fourth wild pitch of the day
- Bottom 8th - Carinci wrapped one around the left field foul pole to add two to BW's lead
At the Plate
- Seven different Yellow Jackets recorded a hit and eight different players crossed home plate for BW
- Kilbane led the way going 3-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored finishing just a triple shy of the cycle
- Ritlinger-Nirider also had a five-RBI game as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored
- Carinci and Marousek each finished with a multi-hit game and drove in three runs and two runs, respectively
- Kolenich and Fixx each notched two hits and an RBI
On the Mound
- Senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) gave the Yellow Jackets a huge advantage going into Day 2 of tournament by saving the bullpen after pitching eight innings where he allowed five runs on 10 hits and four walks while adding a strikeout
- Sophomore Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) made his pitching debut in the ninth where he allowed only one earned run on a hit and two walks and then ended the game with his first career strikeout

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, May 17 as they continue the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by Salisbury (Md.) University by taking on Salisbury at 12 p.m. at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Stadium. The loser of Game 4 will play in the Game 5 elimination game at 3:30 p.m.
