Baseball Hammers Alfred State (N.Y.) in Regular Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. - The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team concluded its regular season by defeating Alfred State (N.Y.) College in a non-conference game by a final score of 10-4 on the campus of Gannon (Pa.) University at McConnell Family Stadium. 

Scoring Plays
  • Bottom 1st - Junior All-OAC third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) wasted no time getting the Jackets on the board with a two-run single
  • Bottom 1st - Sophomore second baseman Jace Druschel (Tampa, Fla./George Steinbrenner) reached on a fielder's choice but was able to bring in another run for BW
  • Bottom 2nd - Kolenich recorded another RBI on a groundout with a runner on third 
  • Bottom 3rd - Senior third baseman Grant Mitchell (Avon) had a pinch-hit two-run single to extend the Brown and Gold lead
  • Bottom 3rd - Druschel came around to score after a groundout by senior All-OAC left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) 
  • Bottom 6th - Senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering) continues to mash the ball with a two-run shot to right
  • Bottom 7th - Marousek grounded into a double play but was able to drive in another run
On the Mound
  • Senior Academic All-OAC right-hander Kade Swisher (Berea/Berea-Midpark) got the start in his final regular season game where he pitched two innings and struck out one while allowing two runs on three hits
  • Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) was credited with the win after throwing four innings where he gave up two runs on four hits and a walk but had two strikeouts
  • Sophomore right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) pitched the seventh where he retired all three batters including one strikeout
  • Freshman right-hander Sam Hoffman (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) allowed only a hit and a walk in the eighth 
  • Freshman left-hander Tyler Vogel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) closed out the game where he notched a career-high two punchouts 
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on May 8 as they travel to Alliance for the First Round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by the University of Mount Union. BW will be the third seed and will take on second-seeded Ohio Northern University on Thursday at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
