Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Carnegie Mellon (Pa.)

ERIE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team opened the 2025 season by falling to Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University by a score of 2-0 at Behrend Stadium.

BW (0-1) suffered their first loss of the season after allowing a goal in the first half and another in the second. Carnegie Mellon (1-0) came out on top, scoring two goals while taking only three shots on goal in both teams' season opener.

BW Leaders

  • Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Owen Reyes (North Olmsted) led the Brown and Gold with two shots on goal

  • Senior Academic All-OAC midfielder Mathew Skladany (Cleveland/St. Edward), senior forward Max Yakym (Parma/Normandy) junior midfielder Dominic Massaro (Lewiston, N.Y./Lewiston Porter), junior forward Nate Usrey (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and junior midfielder Cimi Halilaj (Westlake) all added a shot

  • Junior netminder Seth Warrick (Avon) recorded one save

  • BW had two corner kicks, in contrast to CMU having none

  • The Yellow Jackets out shot the Tartans in the first half, 5-4

Carnegie Mellon Leaders

  • Freshman Idan Garten scored the game's first goal in the final minute of the half

  • Rohan Dhingra scored the Tartans second goal of the game in the second half

  • Garten led the way with three shots for Carnegie Mellon

  • Dhingra and junior Justin Fung each had one assist

  • Goalkeeper Kai Yamamoto had five saves 

First Half (Carnegie Mellon 1-0)

  • 44:21 - Garten got the scoring going, notching a goal 39 seconds before halftime on an assist by Dhingra, to give the Tartans a 1-0 advantage over BW

Second Half (Carnegie Mellon 2-0)

  • 75:49 - Dhingra doubled the Tartans' lead by adding a goal, making it a 2-0 game. Fung came in on the assist, and the result made Dhingra be involved in both scoring plays in addition to the assist he had in the opening half
