Football Wins Home Opener, Defeats Wilmington in 47th Shrine Classic Game

Box Score BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team opened the home season with an impressive 63-21 defeat of Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference and 47th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic game on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (2-0, 1-0 OAC) improved to 23-3 in the all-time series, including winning 15 straight games over Wilmington (1-1, 0-1 OAC).   During the 15 game winning streak, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the Quakers 714-221.

  • Offense accounted 648 yards of total offense (371 yards rushing and 277 yards passing)
  • Defense allowed just 280 yards of offense and had two interception returns for touchdowns
  • Junior All-OAC quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 19-of-29 passes for 257 yards with two touchdowns
  • Linberger rushed for a career-high 173 yards on 12 carries with a career-best three touchdowns.
  • Senior All-OAC wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon) caught a game-high eight passes for a career-high 124 yards and one touchdown
  • Senior linebacker Devontae Jackson (Cleveland/John Hay) tallied a team-high nine tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, one pass breakup and an 83-yard interception for touchdown

  • Senior quarterback Isaac Ross completed 19-of-29 passes for 257 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions
  • Ross rushed for 18 yards on seven carries
  • Sanon caught five passes for 107 yards with one touchdown
  • Sophomore defensive back Tyler Gregory recorded a game-high 14 tackles
