Men's Soccer Drops Shot-Filled Battle With Waynesburg (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team dropped its first game since August 31 to end a four-game non-losing streak by a score of 1-0 against Waynesburg (Pa.) University on the field of George Finnie Stadium.

BW (3-3-1) had numerous opportunities, taking 16 shots throughout the contest with one of them at the four-minute mark hitting off the top of the goalpost by junior transfer Dominic Massaro (Lewiston, N.Y./Lewiston Porter). The Yellow Jackets beat Waynesburg (3-2) in the shots battle, 16-4.

BW Leaders 

  • Senior Academic All-OAC member Mathew Skladany (Cleveland/St. Edward) led BW with seven shots taken, with two of them on goal

  • Max Yakym (Parma/Normandy) additionally had two shots on goal to tie Skladany for the team lead in the respective category

  • Starting at the net for the Brown and Gold was sophomore Michael Jergens (Tipp City/Tippecanoe), finishing the game with playing all 90 minutes

Waynesburg Leaders

  • Sophomore midfielder Sarpong Kwabiah led the way by scoring the only goal of the contest for either team

  • Kwabiah had three shots taken and one on goal to also lead the team

  • Goalkeeper Deven Patel had four saves to help blank the Yellow Jackets' offense

First Half (Waynesburg 1-0)

  • 24:00 - Waynesburg was able to get on the board first, with a goal scored by sophomore midfielder Sarpong Kwabiah that was unassisted; which was good enough for them to have a 1-0 lead at the break

Second Half (Waynesburg 1-0)

  • Both teams were unable to score over the final 45 minutes of the contest; BW had 10 shots in the second half, holding Waynesburg to just one
