Skladany's Three Goal Night Gives Men's Soccer First Win Of 2025

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team rallied with one of the most thrilling second half comebacks a person will see to defeat Geneva (Pa.) College by a final score of 4-3 at Reeves Field to get their first win of the season.

The game ultimately came down to the final 10 minutes of play with Senior All-Academic Ohio Athletic Conference member Mathew Skladany (Cleveland/St. Edward) scoring three goals in the contest, including two in the last eight minutes of play. Skladany became the first player for BW (1-2) since Nick Surowicz on September 24, 2022 to score three goals in a game. Senior Will Dunda also had a multi-goal effort with two himself for the Golden Tornadoes (0-2).

BW Leaders (1-2)

  • Skladany was the leading offensive player with three goals for the Yellow Jackets. In addition to his three goals, he went onto finish the night with six total shots taken and four of them being on goal, marking a 75% tally for shots that were on goal

  • Senior Academic All-OAC forward Mike Kane (Kent/Hudson) was the other Yellow Jacket player to score a goal, doing so 68 minutes into the contest to cut the deficit down to 3-2 at the time

  • Kane, Senior Michael Giganti (Uniontown/Lake) and sophomore Maguire Alden (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) all contributed nicely for the Brown and Gold with two shots on goal

  • In addition to Skladany, Kane was the other player for BW to take multiple shots on goal, with two of them

  • Giganti led the way for BW with one assist, doing so in the first half on the Kane goal

  • Seth Warrick (Avon) was protecting the new for the Brown and Gold and he had six big saves and allowing no goals in the second half to keep the team in the thick of things

Geneva Leaders (0-2)

  • Dunda led the way with two goals for Geneva

  • Assists were added by senior George Cottenden, sophomore Luke Main and freshman Luke Kost

  • Dunda had three shots on goal and four taken overall

  • Ian Lewis had four saves and allowed four goals

First Half (Geneva 2-1)

  • 1:55 - Dunda got the scoring going less than two minutes into the contest which was assisted by Main and Cottenden

  • 31:56 - Geneva took a 2-0 lead on a high right goal scored by Elijah Jurisch on an assist by Luke Kost

  • 32:29 - The Yellow Jackets got on the board on Skladany's first goal of the season to cut Geneva's lead in half.

Second Half (BW 4-3)

  • 53:36 - On a penalty kick, Dunda scored his second goal of the game to give Geneva a two-goal cushion with a little under 40 minutes to play

  • 68:12 - Kane tallied a goal low right for the Yellow Jackets to once again cut Allegheny's lead in half at 3-2, assisted by Giganti

  • 82:58 - Skladany added his second goal of the night to tie the game at three after no scoring occurred for 14 minutes

  • 83:19 - Skladany notched his third goal of the game on a penalty kick 21 seconds after his own game-tying goal
