Women's Soccer Has Second Draw Of Season In Hard Fought Battle With Allegheny (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team competed in a draw against Allegheny College (Pa.) at George Finnie Stadium, 1-1, for their second tie in their first three games of the 2025 season. 

The Yellow Jackets (0-1-2) were very aggressive on the offensive end, taking 20 shots as a team with six of them on goal. Of the 20 shots, eight came in the first half and 12 of them in the latter 45 minutes. The team's 20 shots taken were the most they've attempted this season, previously having 17 at Geneva on August 30. Allegheny (0-2-1) took six shots, with five of them coming in the second half of play, including the game-tying goal with a little over 20 minutes to play.

BW Leaders (0-1-2)

  • The Yellow Jackets were led on offense by Maria Dee (Vermilion/Elyria Catholic) who took three shots on goal, including her and the team's first goal of 2025, which was unassisted

  • Sophomore Academic All-OAC defender Ella James (Loveland) took five shots, which was the team leader in the effort for BW

  • Junior Academic All-OAC midfielder Mia Fourtounis (Akron/Revere) and junior Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay) each took three shots for the Brown and Gold

  • Senior Academic All-OAC midfielder Sydni Mudge (Birch Run, Mich.) and freshman Chloe Kirsten (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) also had multiple shots on goal with two each

  • Junior netminder Kelly Carver (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) was the goalie once again for the Yellow Jackets and had one save throughout the game

  • BW won the shots taken battle 20-6

 

Allegheny Leaders (0-2-1)

  • Savannah Wilde led the way for the Gators with two shots taken, including the game-tying goal with 22:33 to play

  • Wilde and Casey Bender had one shot on goal as the team finished with two total shots

  • Alex Augustine protected the net for Allegheny and had five saves.


First Half (Tied 0-0)

  • The game was scoreless after one half of play. BW was heavily in the zone throughout the first half, taking eight shots with four of them being at the target. Dee led all players in action with two shots on goal


Second Half (Tied 1-1)

  • 38:30 - Dee scored BW's first goal of the season after a sequence of shots by the Yellow Jackets and saves made by Allegheny. The end result was good enough for the Brown and Gold to take the lead 1-0

  • 21:20 - After possessing the lead for almost 15 minutes, Wilde scored a goal right side for Allegheny to tie the game at one.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road and will head to Central Ohio, where they will face Denison University on Friday, September 5, at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
