Women's Soccer Drops Contest to Denison

Granville, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to Denison University by a score of 5-1 in a road match at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.

The Jackets (0-2-2) could not recover after trailing 3-0 in the first half to the Big Red. An early second-half score by Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay) was the only goal the Yellow Jackets were able to get as Denison (2-1) quickly scored two more goals to finish out the match.

BW Leaders (0-2-2) · 

  • Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay) scored BW's lone goal in the second half, which was her first of the season

  • The Yellow Jackets had eight shots taken, six of them were on goal

  • With eight shots taken and six on goal, the Brown and Gold had eight different players take one shot and six individuals take one shot on goal

Denison Leaders (2-1)

  •  Forward Emily Stackhouse led the Big Red with two goals and one assist being the only player for the team to have an assist despite five goals scored

  •  Midfielders Mattie Mielke, Maryn Zavislak, and forward Della Hawkins each scored one goal

  • Four different Denison players had two shots on goal to lead the offensive attack

  • Freshman Goalkeeper Caroline Hauge had five saves while allowing just one BW goal

First Half (Denison 3-0)

  • 18:17 - Mielke got the scoring started on a high right goal to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead less than halfway through the opening half

  • 26:48 - Denison added onto their lead with Zavislak connecting high-center, which was assisted by Stackhouse to increase their lead to 2-0

  • 35:58 - A goal scored by Stackhouse put BW in a 3-0 deficit heading into the break. The goal was unassisted

Second Half (Denison 4-1)

  • 61:38 - Rich scored her first goal of the season to drop BW's deficit to two goals, 3-1 on a shot that went in right-center of the net

  • 70:11 - Stackhouse scored her second goal of the game which allowed the Big Red to get a three-goal cushion back of 4-1

  • 85:40 - Freshman Della Hawkins tallied a goal close to the end to make it a 5-1 Denison advantage

The Yellow Jackets will conclude a two-game road trip, where they will square off against Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday, September 9, at Jay Martin Soccer Complex in Delaware, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
