Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler for the second time this season, including the second time in three weeks, and for the second time in his career.
Petrella, who earned his first weekly honor on January 12, picks up the weekly honor after posting a perfect 4-0 record in OAC action last week to help guide No. 25 nationally ranked BW to a 4-0 record in OAC duals, including winning its 44 straight OAC match dating back to December 2019.
He opened the week by with a 22-5 technical fall victory over Anthony Gencarelli of Muskingum University last Tuesday.
Petrella closed out the week with a three-pin performance at the OAC Duals hosted by Otterbein University. He began the duals with a pin in 2:10 over Landon Cook of Heidelberg University. Petrella then secured a pin in 59 seconds over Brayden McFetridge of the University Mount Union. He closed out his impressive week and the duals with a pin in 2:25 over Karson Nail of Otterbein.
On the season,
Petrella is 15-0 with eight pins, four technical falls and two major decisions.
For his career,
Petrella has a record of 58-8 with 20 pins, 19 technical falls and four major decisions.
Off the mat, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, 2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American, 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 6 when they host a non-conference match against crosstown rival John Carroll University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.
