WILMINGTON, Ohio – The No. 8 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team finished off an undefeated Ohio Athletic Conference season for the second year in a row with an 87-67 win over the Wilmington Quakers. The game was tight after the first quarter, but the Yellow Jackets started to heat up and cruised to a 20-point victory to confirm their undefeated record in conference play this season.
This is just the Yellow Jackets' third time in school history going undefeated in OAC in the regular season. The previous occurrences were in the 1999-00 season and 2024-25 seasons. BW, led by Head Coach
Cheri Harrer in her 36th season, is on a 34-game winning streak over OAC teams in the regular season dating back to February 17, 2024. This season, BW finishes 23-2 overall and now has a 20-game active win streak. They will host the OAC championships as the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
BW Leaders (23-2, 16-0 OAC)
- Junior guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) was BW's leading scorer with a career-high 21 points and added three rebounds and two assists
- Sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station/Columbia) was the second highest scorer with 12 points
- Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) added 10 points and four assists
Wilmington Leaders (6-19, 3-13 OAC)
- Senior guard Gabby Russell led the Quakers in scoring with 25 points and notched four assists
- Junior forward Olivia Trusty scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds
1st Quarter (24-19 BW)
- McCoy led BW with 10 points in the quarter
- Sophomore forward Delaney Garcia (Lakewood) scored a buzzer-beating layup to extend the lead to five
- The Yellow Jackets were 100% from the free throw line
2nd Quarter (43-34 BW)
- BW out-rebounded Wilmington 9-3
- The Yellow Jackets shot well, shooting 58.3% from the field and 75% from deep
- The Quakers' leading scorer was senior guard Russell with nine points
3rd Quarter (63-51 BW)
- BW outscored Wilmington 20-17
- The Yellow Jackets' leading scorer was Wilkerson who scored six points
- The Brown and Gold ended the quarter on a 12-6 run
4th Quarter (87-67 BW)
- BW made 10 field goals compared to Wilmington's five
- Champagne went 2-2 from deep and led the Brown and Gold in scoring with six points
- Senior forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) grabbed four offensive rebounds
