UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team beat rival John Carroll 8-6 in the season opener on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula stadium.
With a fast start and a strong finish, the Brown and Gold prevailed in their first game of the season. Junior midfielder
Annette Doren (Lakewood) scored the first goal of the season for the Yellow Jackets. BW was losing by one going into the final quarter, and they scored as many goals in the fourth as they had all game to comeback and seal the victory. The Yellow Jackets can start their season off with a win, and a big win at that.
The Yellow Jackets were led by senior
Clare Alic (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) with her team-leading four goals and three ground balls.
John Carroll was led by senior Kathleen Cagney with two goals and three shots on goal.
First Quarter (1-0 BW)
- Baldwin Wallace started off with one goal to John Carroll's zero
- BW and JCU were tied with 1-1 in the draw control battle
- John Carroll out-shot Baldwin Wallace five to four
Second Quarter (3-3)
- JCU outscored BW 3-2 which made them tied up 3-3 at halftime
- The Yellow Jackets won the draw control war at the half 5-3 (4-2 BW in the quarter)
- BW out-shot JCU seven to four in the quarter, bringing the total to 11-9 at halftime
Third Quarter (5-4 JCU)
- John Carroll had two goals opposed to Baldwin Wallace's one
- The Brown and Gold had the leverage in draw control 3-1
- BW had just barely out-shot JCU nine to eight
Fourth Quarter (8-6 BW)
- With four goals, BW outscored John Carroll's one goal in the last quarter
- John Carroll led in draw controls 3-2 with BW leading 10-7 at the end
- The Yellow Jackets and JCU both had 6 shots, but BW out-shot JCU 26-23 by the end
