Baseball Tops Transylvania (Ky.) in Second Game of Weekend Trip

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 29 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team beat the Transylvania (Ky.) University Pioneers by a score of 9-3 at Legends Stadium. 

The Yellow Jackets put together solid performances on both defense and offense to lead them to victory, including eight hits.

Scoring Summary

Top 2nd – Junior second baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) scored on an error by the pitcher to give the opening run to BW

Top 2nd – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) tripled home BW's second run to take a 2-0 lead

Top 2nd – Junior designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) doubled home Kolenich, and BW ended the inning up 3-0

Top 3rd – The Yellow Jackets' lead increased to 4-0 because of an RBI single by senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban)

Top 5th – A two-run single by senior center fielder John Panstares (Westlake/St. Ignatius) bumped BW's lead to six

Top 5thKolenich added another RBI with a single to bring Panstares home and give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead

Top 8thWest opened his home run account for the year with a two-run shot to increase BW's lead to 9-1

At the Plate

  • West went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run and had a team-leading three RBI

  • Kolenich went 2-for-3 with a triple, added a walk, and had two RBI

  • Panstares also added two RBI with one hit and two stolen bases

On the Mound

  • Senior left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only one run and six runners to reach base. He added six strikeouts and was credited with a win

  • Freshmen right-hander Jared Thacker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) pitched two innings of relief, giving up two runs and throwing 31 pitches
