Men's Basketball Tops Capital to Sweep Season Series on Senior Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Capital University by a score of 90-77 inside the Ursprung Gymnasium to sweep the regular-season series against the Comets.

Trailing at halftime 40-37, the Yellow Jackets came alive in the final 10 minutes of the game and were led by five players scoring north of double-digits to give the Brown and Gold their fourth win of OAC play.

Prior to the game, BW honored their lone senior Myles Reynolds (Cleveland/St. Edward) who spent three years with the program dating back to the 2023-24 season

BW Leaders (7-15, 4-9 OAC)

  • Junior Academic All-OAC guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow/Munroe-Falls) was the offensive leader for the Brown and Gold with 21 points and three assists

  • Junior forward Isaac Richardson (Avon Lake) had 20 points and two steals to contribute to the offense

  • Junior forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) had 14 points to go along with two steals and a block

  • Junior guard Daiyaan Solomon (Cleveland/St Edward) had 13 points and led BW with seven rebounds

  • Freshman guard Josh Byers (Strongsville) added 10 points of his own in 24 minutes of action

  • Junior Academic All-OAC forward Andrew Griffith (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) had a team-leading four assists for the Yellow Jackets 

Capital Leaders(8-14, 3-10 OAC)

  • Sophomore guard Se'Ron Calloway-White had 24 points to lead both teams in scoring

  • Junior forward Chris Mitchell pulled down 14 rebounds, which was also the leader for both teams in rebounds

  • Senior guard McKane Fickenbine tallied five assists to help the Comets' offense

  • Mitchell had three blocks to go along with his rebounding performance

First Half (Capital 40-37)

  • Richardson opened up the scoring for BW in the first possession of the afternoon as the Yellow Jackets played from in front to start things off

  • The Yellow Jackets were ahead 20-16 with 10:34 to play in the first half, with seven different players on the scoreboard

  • From this point, the Brown and Gold increased their lead to as many as nine points, 29-20, with just over six minutes to play in the half

  • For the remainder of the half, Capital went on a 20-8 run and gave itself a three-point lead at the halfway point 

  • Solomon led the way for BW with 11 points and five rebounds 

  • On defense, the Yellow Jackets forced six Capital turnovers, double the number of turnovers BW had throughout the first 20 minutes

Second Half (BW 90-77)

  • Both teams came out competitively to start the second half off, and things were all tied at 46 with 15 minutes to play

  • The next five minutes saw Capital get in front, going on an 11-5 run to take a 57-51 lead

  • After this, both teams traded baskets again, and a Baskerville IV layup with just over eight minutes to go tied the game at 59

  • The next three minutes were highlighted by a 17-2 BW run, which saw Pestello make a desperation steal and pass, with Richardson making a layup to give the team a 68-61 lead with five minutes to play

  • For the remainder of the contest, the Yellow Jackets held on and led by as many as 13, including the score at the end, 90-77, to get their third-largest margin of victory in a game this season

  • Baskerville IV finished the second half with 18 total points, while scoring just three in the first half
