Baseball Defeats Crosstown Rival John Carroll for Fourth Consecutive Win

BEREA, Ohio –  The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated John Carroll University in a crosstown rivalry game by a score of 15-0 on Fisher Field to improve to 13-3 on the season.

Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 1st – Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) doubled to left center to score three runs and put BW up 3-0 early

  • Bottom 1st – Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) had a double to bring home Gordon and extend the lead to four

  • Bottom 3rd - Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider  (Grove City) had an RBI single to second base on a tough fielding play which was able to bring home two more runs after an overthrow to home plate by the Blue Streaks' second baseman

  • Bottom 3rd – Junior infielder Colin West (Westborough, Mass/Worcester Academy) had an RBI double to left center to score Ritlinger-Nirider and make it a 7-0 game at the time

  • Bottom 4th – Senior Academic All-OAC infielder Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop) walked with the bases loaded to extend the Yellow Jacket lead

  • Bottom 4th – After reaching base by a walk, sophomore utility player Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) scored on a wild pitch to keep the offense in tact

  • Bottom 4th - Ritlingler-Nirider had the swing of the day for BW which was a grand slam over the right field wall for the Yellow Jackets' second consecutive home game with a grand slam home run

  • Bottom 5th - Tarquinio had a sacrifice fly to make it a 14-0 game

  • Bottom 7th - Junior All-OAC third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) had another sacrifice fly to score the final run of the day for the Yellow Jackets and go up 15-0

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, three runs scored, and reached base four times

  • Gordon had two hits including a double, and drove in three runs

  • Sean Kolenich scored three times and added two hits with one RBI and a walk

  • The lineup combined for 15 runs on 13 hits, with six extra-base hits (five doubles and a home run) and drew 14 walks

On the Mound

  • The pitching staff combined for a 9-inning shutout, allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out seven.

  • Freshman right-hander Austin Coy (East Canton/Canton Central Catholic) led the way with four scoreless innings, striking out four while earning his first victory of the season 

  • Sophomore left-hander Tyler Vogel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) pitched two innings out of the bullpen, striking out and walking two while allowing no runs

  • Senior right-hander Tyler Janak (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West Senior), freshman right-hander Johnny Neal (Moreland Hills/Orange) and sophomore right-hander Michael Delduca (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) all pitched one scoreless inning with a combined two hits and two walks between all three pitchers
