Women’s Basketball Ends Season at Johns Hopkins in Lost Turnover Battle

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team fell to Johns Hopkins (Md.) by a score of 59-46 inside Goldfarb Gymnasium in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament at Johns Hopkins University. The Yellow Jackets ended the season with an overall record of 25-4.

BW (25-4) held the Blue Jays to 10 points in the first quarter and took the lead going into halftime. The third quarter featured a suffocating full court press fest by Johns Hopkins that caused the Yellow Jackets to turn the ball over 30 times. Johns Hopkins capitalized with 23 points off of turnovers to move onto the next round.

BW Leaders (25-4)
  • Junior guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) and junior All-OAC guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) both led in scoring with eight points each while also collecting seven rebounds each.
  • All-OAC senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) shared the lead in scoring with eight points and collected four rebounds.
  • Jones led the team in assists with six.
  • With a perfect 4-4 record at the free throw line, Jones led the team in foul shots.

Johns Hopkins Leaders (27-1)
  • Faith Williamson led the Blue Jays in scoring with 18 points.
  • Macie Feldman had six rebounds to lead on the boards.
  • Williamson went 7-8 from the free throw line.

1st Quarter (BW 15-10)  
  • Jones started the Jackets scoring with two made free throws 35 seconds into the game.
  • There were three lead changes in the quarter.
  • BW held the Blue Jays to 10 points after scoring 100 points in their first-round game.
  • Three buckets from deep kickstarted the Jackets offense.

2nd Quarter (BW 27-22) 
  • BW shot 41.67% from the field and 40% from three to keep the offense going.
  • Johns Hopkins scored six field goals to keep within striking distance.
  • Williamson led the Blue Jays with six points; all scored in the paint.

3rd Quarter (JHU 42-34)  
  • The turnovers for the Yellow Jackets totaled 13 in the quarter as the Blue Jays pressed the Jackets in transition all quarter long.
  • Johns Hopkins scored 20 points in the quarter, 12 coming off of turnovers.
  • Feldman and Williamson combined for four out of the five Johns Hopkins steals.
 
4th Quarter (JHU 59-46) 
  • The Brown and Gold cut the lead to 43-39 with 8:46 remaining after a three from Wilkerson, but the Blue Jays responded with a 5-0 scoring run.
  • Johns Hopkins went 46.2% shooting from the field in the quarter, having their best efficiency of any quarter.
  • BW went 4-15 from the field for a 26.67% shooting percentage.
