#13 Baseball Drops Offensively Contested Game Against John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio
– The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to John Carroll University by a final score of 11-10 on Schweickert Field to fall to 20-8 on the season.


Scoring Summary

  • Top 1st – Senior third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St Edward) slid in safely on a wild pitch, giving the Yellow Jackets an early 1–0 lead

  • Top 2nd – Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) laid down a sacrifice bunt, allowing John Panstares (Westlake/St Ignatius) to score and extend the lead to 2–0

  • Top 3rd - On a full count, Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City/Grove City) crushed a ball over the right-field fence, making it 3–1 Yellow Jackets

  • Top 4th – On the first pitch of his at-bat, Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) lifted a ball just over the left-field fence for a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to 6–5

  • Top 4th – Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City/Grove City) delivered an RBI double to right-center field, scoring Terzola and tying the game at six

  • Top 7th – Senior left fielder John Panstares (Westlake/St Ignatius) delivered an RBI double that dropped between John Carroll's second baseman and right fielder, allowing Bellina to score and giving the Yellow Jackets a 7–6 lead

  • Top 7th - Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) lined a single just over John Carroll's first baseman, driving in Petrecca and Panstares for two RBIs and extending the Yellow Jackets' lead to 9–6

  • Top 9th – Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Panstares to tag from third and score, extending BW's lead to 10–6

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, drew one walk, drove in two runs, and scored once

  • Panstares went 4-for-4 with one RBI, drew a walk, stole a base, and scored four runs

  • Fixx went 4-for-5 with a home run, drove in four runs, and scored once

  • Terzola went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, one on a sacrifice fly and one on a bunt, and scored once

  • The Yellow Jacket lineup combined for 10 runs on 14 hits, with four extra-base hits (two doubles and two home runs), and drew five walks

On the Mound

  • Freshman right-hander Joseph Wheeler (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) made his collegiate debut, pitching in six innings, struck out two, and allowed three earned runs
