No. 13 Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio
– The No. 13 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Fishbaugh Field with Otterbein University. 

A tough defensive battle saw the Cardinals pull out a 1-0 win in extra innings during the first game. The Yellow Jacket offense found its rhythm in the second game, scoring at least 15 runs for the eighth time this season en route to a 16-7 win. This outing gives BW a 17-5 record on the season and a 5-1 OAC record.


Game 1 (Otterbein 1-0, 10 Inn.)


Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 10th – Otterbein's Daniel Uhl singled home the game-winning and only run of the game to give the Cardinals a 1-0 win

At the Plate

  • Senior third-baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) led BW with two hits and a stolen base

  • Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk

On the Mound

  • Senior left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) pitched a complete game of 9 1/3 innings, only allowing one run on four hits with a strikeout on 83 pitches

Scoring Summary 

  • Top 1st - Junior left-fielder Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) hit a two-run home run to give BW a 2-0 lead

  • Top 4th - Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) hit an RBI single to bring the score to 5-3 in Otterbein's favor

  • Top 5th - Sophomore right-fielder Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) singled home BW's fourth run of the game

  • Top 5th – Junior second-basemen Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) doubled home Tarquinio to level the score at 5-5

  • Top 6th – After going down another two runs, junior first-baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) hit a two RBI single to bring the game to 7-7

  • Top 6thPetrecca gave BW a 9-7 lead thanks to a two-run single

  • Top 7thWest doubled home a 10th Yellow Jacket run

  • Top 7th – Sophomore designated-hitter Yuri Bellina (Medina/Padua Franciscan) singled home a run to give BW a 11-7 lead

  • Top 7thBellina was the Brown and Gold's 12th run thanks to an RBI single by senior right-fielder Reid Fleming (Pickerington/North)

  • Top 7th Petrecca increased the BW lead to six with an RBI single

  • Top 8th – BW's 14th run was scored when Kolenich was able to reach home plate thanks to an error by the Otterbein second baseman

  • Top 8thFleming singled home the Yellow Jackets 15th run

  • Top 8th - Sophomore catcher Owen Brazee (Bedford, Mass./Lawrence Academy) singled home a run to give BW a 16-7 lead

At the Plate

  • West went 3-for-4 with three RBI, a home run, a double, four runs, and two walks

  • Petrecca went 3-for-5 with a double and a team leading four RBI

  • Gordon added three RBI on 2-for-7 hitting

  • Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) was 2-for-5, scored two runs and also walked twice

  • Kolenich was 1-for-5 and reached base three times thanks to two walks

  • Fleming was 2-for-2 off the bench which included two singles, two RBI, and two runs scored

  • Sophomore catcher Owen Brazee (Bedford, Mass./Lawrence Academy) had two hits for his third multi-hit game of the season

On the Mound

  • Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two batters

  • Freshman left-hander Michael Falls (Lancaster, N.Y.) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits, striking out two, and being credited with a first career win

  • Junior right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) closed the game by pitching an inning and allowed no runs and struck out one batter
