BEREA, Ohio – The No. 2 seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team beat No. 3 seeded Otterbein University in a tough matchup in the Ohio Athletic Conference semi-finals, 11-9.
BW jumped out to a big early lead before it got cut down to one to end the first half. A back-and-forth second half ensued, with the biggest margin between the teams being three, but the Yellow Jackets never surrendered the lead and won the game to advance to the OAC finals.
BW Leaders (12-3, 5-1)
- Sophomore midfield Ella Szalay (Struthers/Cardinal Mooney) led BW with four goals, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers
- Junior first-team All-OAC midfield Clare Alic (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) scored three goals, notched one assist, and had three draw controls
- Freshman goalie Aubrey Berner (Columbus/Dublin Coffman) led the Yellow Jackets in the net with eight saves
Otterbein Leaders (10-7, 4-2)
- Freshman midfield Leela Henry scored three goals and had two assists
- Sophomore goalie Alayna Bogner led the Cardinals in net with 11 saves
1st Quarter (BW 5-0)
- Junior All-OAC midfield Annette Doren (Lakewood) scored the opening goal of the game
- Alic and Szalay each scored two goals in the first quarter
- BW won the ground ball battle 9-2
2nd Quarter (BW 5-4)
- Otterbein's Henry led with two goals in the quarter
- BW won all four draw controls in the period
3rd Quarter (BW 9-7)
- Szalay opened the quarter with two goals in the first two minutes and 14 seconds
- Berner made four saves in the quarter
- The Yellow Jackets scored all four of their shots on target
4th Quarter (BW 11-9)
- Junior Academic All-OAC attack Emma Northrup (Hudson) scored the game-sealing goal with five seconds left on the clock to put BW ahead by two
- BW outshot Otterbein 11-3
- The Brown and Gold won all the draw controls in the period, notching four more for the game
