Brian Schmidt finished his tenth season and fourth as Associate Head Coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2023-24.  He served the previous seven seasons as an assistant coach.

Schmidt at BW

  • Promoted to Associate Head Coach on January 4, 2021
  • Mentored 25 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selections, 19 All-OAC performers, the OAC Jim Burson Defensive Player of the Year and the OAC Co-Freshman of the Year
  • Coached on six consecutive winning seasons with an overall record of 102-62 and a 61-47 mark in the OAC
  • Coached in six OAC Tournaments with one tournament title, two championship game and three semifinal appearances.
  • Won the 2019 OAC Tournament Championship
  • Advanced to second round of NCAA Tournament in 2019

Coaching Experience

  • Assistant varsity coach and strength and conditioning coach at Brunswick High School with Athletic Alumni Association Hall of Famer Joe Mackey for five years.
  • Coached to team to at least 14 victories in each of the five seasons
  • Appeared in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) District semifinal four times
  • OHSAA district runner-up finish in 2014. 

As a Player

  • Four-year letterwinner and starter at Heidelberg University
  • Two-year team captain
  • Won the 2008 OAC Tournament title.
  • All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection in 2007 and 2008
  • He individually earned All-OAC honors in both 2007 and 2008
  • Ranks 16th all-time in Heidelberg history with 1,183 points
  • Heidelberg school-record holder for field goal percentage in a season and career

Hometown Roots

  • Brunswick, Ohio native
  • Graduate of Brunswick High School where he played basketball
  • Coach Schmidt and his wife Halle, a 2008 BW graduate reside in Brunswick with their sons, Griffin and Carson
