BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team concluded play at the season opening Capital/Otterbein Classic by dropping a pair of five set matches in the Capital Center.
The Yellow Jackets (1-3) opened the second day of action by falling to Buffalo State (N.Y.) University by scores of 20-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-21 and 9-15. BW closed out the tournament being defeated by Alma (Mich.) College by scores of 8-25, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24 and 12-15.
Senior middle hitter
Markema Winters (Akron/Firestone), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led the BW offensive attack with 22 kills, including a team-high 15 against Buffalo State. Senior right side hitter
Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) and freshman outside hitter
Lauryn Wright (Orrville) each had 19 kills. Junior outside hitter
Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) contributed 15 kills and junior middle hitter
Kaitlin Burgess (Bentonville, Ark./Silver Lake Regional (Mass.) added 14 kills.
Senior setter
Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore setter
Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense. Primeau had 41 assists, including 22 in match with Alma. Robinson had 33 assists, including a career-best 18 against Buffalo State.
Sophomore libero
Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Yellow Jacket defense as she recorded 47 digs, including 25 in the Alma match. Senior defensive specialist
Paige Pileski (Elyria) added 34 digs with 23 in the Alma match. Freshman outside hitter
Melissa Metz (Medina /Our Lady of the Elms) contributed 32 digs, including a career-high 18 against Alma.
