BW Volleyball Splits on Final Day of HCAC/OAC Challenge

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second and final day of competition of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Ohio Athletic Conference Challenge hosted by Bluffton University in the Sommer Center.

The Yellow Jackets (12-7), who played in the their final tournament of the season, opened the day with a five set loss to Bluffton by scores of 25-18, 10-25, 16-25, 25-13 and 8-15.  BW closed out tournament with a four set victory against the College of Mount St. Joseph by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-18.

Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwester) led the BW offensive attack with 23 kills and closely followed by freshman outside hitter Lauryn Wright (Orrville) with 22 kills.  Senior Academic All-OAC right side hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) and freshman Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) each contributed 13.

Sophomore Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) and senior Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) set up the offense with 45 and 37 assists respectively.

Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul), who was named to the All-Tournament Team,  led the defense with 32 digs.  Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) recorded 26 and senior defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) contributed 19.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, September 20 as it hosts cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in a non-conference match on at 7:30 p.m.  Fans can follow the action live at http://tinyurl.com/mrgjvzl.
