BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Hanover (Ind.) College, 14-2, on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 with the win.
BW led 4-0 after one period, 7-1 at halftime and 10-2 after three periods. BW was led by sophomore MF
Tanner Roberts (Murrayville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) who scored three goals.
In the first quarter, BW scored 18 seconds into the game when senior defender
Chris Nurse (Westlake) scored his first goal of the season via the first assist of the season from sophomore midfielder
Alex Fioritto (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit). The lead grew to 2-0 at 4:53 when
Roberts scored his first of two first period goals with an assist from junior attack
Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine). BW took a 3-0 lead at 1:15 when sophomore MF
Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) scored his fourth goal of the season with the first assist of 2015 from fellow sophomore MF
Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville East). The Jackets got their final goal of the period 24 seconds later from
Roberts, his fourth this season, with sophomore attack
James Wilhelm (Bay Vilage/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) getting his third assist this season.
In the second stanza, BW's lead moved to 5-0 at 10:53 when
Librock scored his first goal of the season unassisted. It became 6-0 at 7:52 when freshman
Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) scored his second goal via an assist from
Carson. The Jackets scored their last first half goal at 6:45 when sophomore MF
Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/ Olentangy Orange) scored his third goal of the campaign unassisted. Hanover finally broke the ice and made it 7-1 with a goal at 5:05.
In the third quarter,
Carson scored his fifth goal of the season 52 seconds in via a
Wilhelm helper to make it 8-1 and
Roberts added his fifth of the season at 9:44 unassisted for a 9-1 advantage. Following Hanover's second goal, BW scored the final goal of the period at 4:30 when
Wilhelm reached the net via an assist from
Brock Riemenschneider.
In the fourth period, BW increased its lead to 11-2 at 13:55 when sophomore MF
Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richland) scored with
Riemenschneider getting the assist again. BW led 12-2 when sophomore MF
Jake Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty), brother of Shane, scored his second goal via a
Carson assist at 11:04. It was 13-2 at 2:41 when Briski scored via a
Wilhelm assist and sophomore attack
Riley Morse (Milwaukee, Wisc./ Mukwongo) scored his second goal via an assist from sophomore attack
Luke Happel (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Hampton).
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 18 when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio for a non-league game against traditional rival Oberlin College at 7 p.m.
