Football Overwhelms Wilmington in OAC Opener

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team hit the road for the first time in 2024 as it defeated Wilmington College in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener by a final score of 42-7 on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium.

BW (2-0, 1-0 OAC) improved to 22-3 in the all-time series with Wilmington (0-2, 0-1 OAC).  The Yellow Jackets have now won 15 straight meetings over the Quakers.

Offensively for BW, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 24-of-30 passes for a career-high 302 yards with a career-best four touchdowns.  Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries.  Sophomore quarterback Xavier Balson (North Olmsted) in his first collegiate game rushed for 84 yards on three carries with a 76-yard touchdown. Senior wide receiver Vinny Lomeo (East Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute caught seven passes for a career-high 100 yards with a career-best two touchdowns.  Defensively, senior defensive back Alden Steele (Lorain/Amherst) recorded six tackles.

Offensively for Wilmington, junior quarterback Isaac Ross completed 16-of-33 passes for 162 yards with one touchdown.  Ross also led the ground attack as he rushed for 13 of the 57 rushing yards.  Senior All-OAC wide receiver Saa'lih Muhammed caught seven passes for 20 yards.  Defensively, sophomore defensive back Samuel Brooks tallied a game-high eight tackles.
