Football Defeats Wittenberg in 2024 Season Opener and 46th Shrine Classic Game

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team opened the 2024 season and renewed a rivalry as it defeated Wittenberg University in the 46th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic game by a final score of 24-14 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (1-0) improves to and evens the all-time series to 21-21-1 with Wittenberg (0-1).

Sophomore placekicker and punter Joseph Evans (Chardon) was selected as the Yellow Jacket Shrine Classic Player of the Game.  Sophomore running back Christian Manville was as named the Tiger Shriner Classic Player of the game.

Offensively for BW, sophomore quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 20-of-26 passes for 184 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rushed for 23 yards on eight carries.  Senior wide receiver Oliver Kelleher (Hobe Sound, Fla./Martin County) caught four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns.  Defensively, junior linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) led with eight tackles.

Offensively for Wittenberg, senior quarterback Max Milton completed 22-of-37 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Manville rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 21 carries with a touchdown.  Senior wideout Kahleel Trent caught seven passes for 85 yards.  Defensively, senior linebacker Cameron Snurr had a game-best nine tackles.
