BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team hosted the 21st Marcia French Invitational where they defeated Adrian (Mich.) College and Muskingum University in a pair of non-conference games in Ursprung Gymnasium.
In the first Marcia French Invitational since the 2018 season, BW (5-1) took down Adrian in four sets by set scores of 25-12, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19 thanks to a handful of career-best performances by the Yellow Jackets. The Brown and Gold then swept a familiar opponent in Muskingum by set scores of 25-21, 25-11, and 25-18 to improve to 5-1 on the season earning the program's best start to a season in five years.
vs. Adrian (2-4)
- Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.) eclipsed 50 assists for the first time in her collegiate career finishing with 53
- Senior All-OAC hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied a career-best 22 kills on a .360 hitting percentage and added 12 digs
- Senior All-OAC libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/St. Joseph Academy) recorded 37 digs: the most by any player in the Invitational
- Junior outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill./North) hit .367 on 30 attempts for 13 kills and also contributed 18 digs
- Senior outside hitter Brinn MacLellan (Novelty/Gilmout Academy) also added 13 kills and 11 digs
vs. Muskingum (5-2)
- Gardner posted her third straight game with four service aces and added 17 digs to her total on the weekend
- MacLellan led the team with 11 kills while freshman middle hitter Josie Lynn (Wabash, Ind./Northfield) registered 10 kills
- Blazetic finished off the weekend with a 40 assist performance
- Rueda and Schlecht added nine kills and eight kills, respectively
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 11 as they travel to Cleveland for a non-conference matchup against Case Western Reserve University at 7 p.m. in Horsburgh Gym inside the Veale Center.
