No. 11 Women's Basketball Beats John Carroll to Close First Half of OAC Schedule

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated crosstown rival John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 68-60 in the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

BW Leaders (15-1, 9-0 OAC) 

  • Sophomore guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) and sophomore guard Maddie Ebbert (Lake Orion, Mich.) each scored a career-high 10 points. Wilkerson shot 4-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-3 from deep and Ebbert shot 6-of-8 at the free-throw line 
  • Senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) recorded a team-high 15 points and added seven rebounds and a team-high three assists
  • Junior Academic All-OAC guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) finished with a game-high eight rebounds tying her season-high
  • Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) was the fourth Jacket in double-figures finishing with 10 points and two assists
John Carroll Leaders (13-3, 7-2 OAC)
  • Junior guard/forward Ava Ryncarz tallied a game-high 16 points and grabbed four rebounds
  • Junior forward Kaylie McKenney led JCU with six rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Brooke Laub had a team-high three assists
1st Quarter (JCU 11-10)
  • The Blue Streaks got out to a 7-2 start but BW stormed back to tie things at 7 with two minutes left to play in the quarter
  • Miller grabbed four of the Brown and Gold's 14 rebounds in the period
2nd Quarter (BW 27-25)
  • Wilkerson drained two threes: her first giving BW the 19-16 lead and her second tying the game at 25-25
  • Senior forward Sadie Arend (Carey) recorded two blocks
  • Both teams traded punches in a quarter with seven lead changes

3rd Quarter (BW 50-37)

  • The Jackets started the half on a 10-3 run forcing a John Carroll timeout
  • BW shot 66.7% from the floor including 3-of-6 shooting from three while the Blue Streak offense shot only 25%
  • Eight different Yellow Jackets contributed to BW's 23 points

4th Quarter (BW 68-60)

  • Ebbert scored six while Irwin and Ressler scored five each to lead the Brown and Gold down the final stretch
  • The Blue Streaks attempted 19 field goals but only converted on seven of them while the Jackets made five of their seven shots

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 25 as they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup and the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader at 1 p.m. in the Rike Center.
