Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts No. 11 Women's Basketball Over Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team remains undefeated in conference play after defeating the Otterbein Univerisity Cardinals by a score 52-42 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the Rike Center. 

BW Leaders

  • Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) had three rebounds, one block and scored a team-high 18 points 
  • Senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) and sophomore guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) both tallied seven rebounds and one assist. Ressler added five points and a block and Jones had two steals and a career-high two blocks
  • Senior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) recorded a team-high 10 rebounds, along with totaling eight points and shooting 4-4 from the free throw line
  • Junior Academic All-OAC guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored a season-high nine points and one rebound 

Otterbein Leaders

  • Graduate Student guard Kathlenn Decarlo totaled 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals 
  • Senior center Maizie King recorded 10 points, two steals and four rebounds 
  • Sophmore guard Kyla Irby had 11 points, one assist and one steal 

1st Quarter (14-10)

  • Irwin had eight of the Jackets' 14 points and opened the quarter sinking two three-point shots 
  • Ebbert, Ressler, and Vaillant each recorded two points

2nd Quarter (22-21)

  • Vaillant made two free throws with a minute left: the first to tie the game and the second to give the Jackets the lead 
  • The Jackets were outscored 10-8 but were able to maintain the lead 

3rd Quarter (31-31)

  • Vaillant's two made free-throws were the Jackets first points of the quarter coming with four minutes remaining 
  • Despite being held scoreless for most of the quarter, the Jackets rallied back scoring nine points in the last four minutes to tie the game going into the final frame

4th Quarter (52-42) 

  • A steal by Irwin that led to a Riley basket gave the Jackets their largest lead since the second quarter 
  • The Jackets offense found it's spark scoring 21 points and going 7-9 from the free-throw line to pull away with the game 

The Yellow Jackets will be back on home court and looking to keep their win streak alive as they face conference foe Ohio Northern University on January 29th at 7 p.m. in Ursprng Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.
