Women's Soccer Wins Third Game In Last Five by Shutting Out Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Otterbein University at George Finnie Stadium by a score of 3-0 for their second-straight win and their third in the last five games on Breast Cancer Awareness and Club Team Travel Day.

Highlights of the game for the Brown and Gold (3-8-2, 2-1 OAC) included Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference defender Lexi Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami), junior midfielder Sophie Kirsten (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and freshman forward Genevieve Smith (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) scoring a goal to mark the first time this year they have scored multiple goals in a game and the fourth in which they've shut out their respective opponent, having a 3-0-1 record in these games.

BW Leaders 

  • Thompson, Kirsten, and Smith were the three goal scorers in the victory over the Cardinals

  • Two of the goals scored had assists in them, including freshman forward and midfielder Addison Francis (Northfield/Nordonia) and Kirsten, assisting on the Kirsten and Smith goals

  • Junior midfielder Mia Fourtounis (Akron/Revere) and Smith led the way with two shots taken and one on goal

  • Junior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Kelly Carver (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) shut down the Cardinals offense with four saves and not allowing any goals while protecting the net all 90 minutes

Otterbein Leaders (6-5-1, 2-1 OAC)

  • Olivia Brooks took three shots with one of them being on goal

  • Goalkeeper Ella Schwertfager had two saves playing 90 minutes

First Half (BW 1-0)

  • 20:54 - The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with Thompson connecting, which was good enough for them to get the lead going into the half, 1-0

Second Half (BW 2-0)

  • 61:25 - BW extended its lead to two when Smith connected diagonally from left to right on a goal that was assisted by Kirsten, becoming the first time they've had a multiple-goal effort game in 2025

  • 81:13 - Kirsten scored the final goal of the game to give the Yellow Jackets some insurance with Francis coming in on the assist

The Yellow Jackets get a week off before they return to action next Saturday, October 18, for a road game at Wilmington College. Kickoff is set for 1 pm and it will be streamed on FloCollege.
