Men's Soccer Snaps Losing Skid in Victory Over Marietta

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team snapped a four-game skid without a goal and a five-game losing streak against Marietta College, winning by a score of 2-1 on the turf of George Finnie Stadium.

Late-game heroics came into effect as junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Owen Huzicka (Gahanna/Lincoln) and junior midfielder Braden Lamb (Cleveland/Lutheran West) scored goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and give the Yellow Jackets (6-11-1, 2-4 OAC) the edge over the Pioneers (5-10-2, 2-4 OAC).

BW Leaders 

  • Huzicka and Lamb led the Brown and Gold offense by each scoring a goal

  • Lamb additionally led the team in shots taken and shots on goal with four and two to pace the offense in efforts to connect

  • Junior goalkeeper Seth Warrick (Avon) was the starter and winner for the Yellow Jackets, recording one save and played the entirety of the outing

  • BW took 20 shots and Marietta only took seven

  • BW also had more corner kicks with six than the opposition, who only had two

Marietta Leaders

  • Defender Sam Holthaus scored Marietta's goal that was by a throw-in and tipped by the Yellow Jacket defense for the team's only connection of the contest

  • Along with Holthaus, Midfielders Lee Miller and Gavin Highberger took two shots, with Highberger recording Marietta's only other shot on goal

  • Goalkeeper Noah Walker played all 90 minutes and recorded 10 saves

First Half (Tied 0-0)

Neither team scored a goal in the opening half of play. The Yellow Jackets took six shots while Marietta only took three. BW also had three corner kicks to best the Pioneers in the category.

Second Half (BW 2-1)

  • 70:36 - Marietta got on the board first on a throw-in that became a goal which was scored by Holthaus

  • 78:19 - BW came back with 12 minutes to play in the game on a penalty shot goal scored by Lamb, which tied things up at one

  • 83:05 - The Brown and Gold came right back as Huzicka connected left-middle to give the team the lead with a little less than seven minutes to go
