Women's Soccer Punches Ticket to OAC Tournament with Dominant Victory Over Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Muskingum University by a score 7-0 on the turf of George Finnie Stadium to conclude the 2025 regular season and have earned a spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament next week.

The Yellow Jackets (4-10-4) were led by sophomore midfielder Delanie Zura (Perrysburg/Eastwood) who had two of the seven goals against the Fighting Muskies (2-16, 0-8). The game is the first time since November 2, 2021 that the Brown and Gold have scored at least seven goals in a game, doing so when they also defeated Mount Union by a score of 7-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference quarterfinals. 

BW Leaders 

  • Zura and Kirsten led the way with each player having a multi-goal game, making it the first time this year that the Brown and Gold have had a player score more than one goal in a game

  • Junior Academic All-OAC defender Ella James (Loveland), junior forward Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay), junior midfielder Sophie Kirsten (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) sophomore forward Maria Dee (Vermilion/Elyria Catholic) and freshman defender Chloe Kirsten (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North were the other goal scorers in the game who each had one goal of their own right 

  • Rich was also the team leader with two assists, her first two handouts of the season

  • Kirsten and junior midfielder Mia Fourtounis (Akron/Revere) led the team in the shots category; each taking four

  • In addition to her goal, Kirsten had four shots on goal

  • Junior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Kelly Carver (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) started the game and played the first 70 minutes, totaling two saves throughout the victory and it's her sixth shutout of the season.

  • BW had 33 shots, while Muskingum only had 11

  • The Yellow Jackets had eight corner kicks, while Muskingum only had five.

Muskingum Leaders

  • Defender Britney Herrick, Hannah Ritche, and Madison Yenke all attempted two shots

  • Ritchie and forward Leah Skufca each had one shot on goal for the only two shots of the game for the Fighting Muskies

First Half (BW 4-0) 

  • 17:53 - Rich scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Yellow Jackets the lead which was assisted by freshman forward Genevieve Smith (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) 

  • 19:45 - Sophie Kirsten scored shortly after Rich scored the first goal of the game to give BW a 2-0 lead

  • 22:05 - James made it a 3-0 game shortly after the first two goals

  • 34:34 - Dee scored the final goal of the opening half, which was unassisted to give BW a 4-0 lead

Second Half (BW 7-0)

  • 57:20 - Chloe Kirsten scored the first goal of the second half to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 5-0 

  • 61:34 - Zura connected with Kirsten coming in on the assist to make it 6-0 with just over 30 minutes to play

  • 72:03 - Zura scored the final goal of the game to make it 7-0 to complete the game with the most goals for BW since 2021

The Yellow Jackets are back in action for the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday, November 1 where they will travel to Wilmington College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
