ANGOLA, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to Trine (Ind.) University in overtime in a non-conference matchup, 76-72, inside the MTI Center. Tonight's game marked the first time the Yellow Jackets have forced overtime since February 10th, 2024.
BW Leaders (0-4)
- Freshman guard Josh Byers (Strongsville) led BW in scoring for the second consecutive game with 15 points
- Junior forward Isaac Richardson (Avon Lake) put up nine points and pulled down rebounds
- Sophomore guard Brock Beech (Medina) notched 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench
- Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Titus Baskerville (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) also had a double-digit game with 13 points while dishing out five assists
- Junior forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) led the Brown and Gold defense with three steals
Trine Leaders (3-0)
- Senior guard Jayden Bradshaw led the Thunder with a game-high 23 points
- Junior forward Drew Panning led the thunder with a game-high 12 rebounds
- Senior guard Nate Tucker filled up the stat sheet with eight points, six assists, and eight rebounds
First Half (Trine 27-23)
- Flood opened the scoring with a three-pointer in the opening minute
- The first ten minutes were a defensive battle as Trine grinded out an 11-5 lead
- Both teams traded baskets and BW took the lead at 3:52 with a three from Beech
- Trine regained the lead and extended it four with a layup from Panning with one second left in the half
- BW shot it efficiently from beyond the arc at 36.4%, compared to Trine's 21.1%
- BW played well in transition scoring 10 points off the fastbreak to Trine's three
Second Half (Tied 66-66)
- Richardson scored the first points of the half with a free throw in the opening seconds
- The Yellow Jackets and Thunder continued to exchange buckets in the opening minutes of the half as the Yellow Jackets kept up their efficient three-point shooting
- Trine maintained their lead as BW chipped away, but the Brown and Gold stole the lead thanks to a huge three pointer by Byers at the 1:28 mark
- After Trine retook the lead, Byers hit another three to put the Yellow Jackets up by two
- Bradshaw tied the game at 66 by making two free throws with 23 seconds to play, sending the game to overtime
Overtime (Trine 76-72)
- Bradshaw scored the first points of overtime with two free throws to put the Thunder up by two
- Baskerville hit two free throws to even the score
- The teams exchanged points but the Thunder gutted out the win with free throws from sophomore guard Cade Brenner
