UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The No. 15 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival No. 8 nationally ranked John Carroll University by a score of 52-45 at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Despite a strong fourth quarter performance, BW (3-2) collected their second loss of the season. A strong defensive showing from the Blue Streaks held the Yellow Jackets to single digits in the first and third frames, making the gap difficult to close.
BW Leaders (3-2)
- Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) gave out a team-high two assists
- Senior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) and senior forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) led the team in points with eight while Miller also led in blocks with three
- Senior Academic All-OAC forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) and Miller led the Brown and Gold with five blocks each
John Carroll Leaders (5-0)
- Ava Ryncarz led a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
- Graci Semptimphelter recorded 14 points along with one assist.
- Carly Perusek registered seven points and a team-leading one block.
- Brooke Laub had ten points while giving out one assist.
1st Quarter (JCU 12-6)
- Miller scored the Yellow Jackets first bucket
- Thompson went 1-1 from the free throw line
- Junior guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) scored a quarter ending layup to cut the Blue Streaks lead in half
2nd Quarter (JCU 28-19)
- BW started the quarter hot going on a 6-0 run
- Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) led with four points
- McCoy recorded one steal
3rd Quarter (JCU 40-24)
- The Yellow Jackets out rebounded the Blue Streaks 9-7
- Junior guard Taylor Bass (Strongsville) and Miller each recorded a steal
- Sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station / Columbia) led with three points
4th Quarter (JCU 52-45)
- BW finished the game strong with their highest scoring quarter
- Badylak led with eight points
- Wilkerson gave out two assists
