BEREA, Ohio - The No. 17 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team hosted the Stevenson University Mustangs in their first of two matchups of the BW Holiday Classic. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Mustangs by a score of 73-36.
A full team effort led to a dominant Yellow Jacket win. BW (9-2, 4-0 OAC) maintained the lead for the entirety of the matchup with career-high games from multiple members of the team. BW looks to carry this momentum into their final matchup of the BW Holiday Classic tomorrow afternoon.
BW Leaders (9-2, 4-0 OAC)
- Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) led the Yellow Jackets in steals with three
- Senior forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) had a team-leading nine rebounds
- Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati / Sycamore) led BW in points by contributing 12
- Sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station/Columbia) gave out a career-high five assists while adding seven points and going 2-2 from the free throw line
- Freshman guard Claire Bartlome (Vermilion) scored a career-high six points
Stevenson Leaders (3-6)
- Janiya Ennis and Anaya Price led the Mustangs, each contributing six points
- Kalea Wynter and Ennis each had a team-high three steals
- Destiny Towns collected a team leading nine rebounds
1st Quarter (BW 23-9)
- Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield / Marysville) got the offense started with a layup off of a Jones assist
- Champagne led the Brown and Gold with seven points and an assist
- The BW defense generated two steals and one block
2nd Quarter (BW 35-11)
- BW out-rebounded the Mustangs 13-7
- The Yellow Jackets defense held Stevenson to just two points in the quarter
- Riley sunk two three-point buckets to extend the BW lead
3rd Quarter (BW 54-19)
- Champagne gave out her fifth assist of the matchup
- The Brown and Gold started the half on a 10-0 run
- BW went 2-2 on free throws
4th Quarter (73-36)
- Four different Yellow Jackets scored three-point baskets in the final frame
- Freshman guard Bartlome scored a career-high six points
- Freshman guard Sky Regan (Doylestown/Chippewa) gave out a career-high two assists
