BEREA, Ohio - The No. 11 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 74-52 in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW Leaders (18-1, 12-0 OAC)
- Sophomore guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) scored a career-high 16 points shooting 5-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three and led the team with three steals
- Senior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) tallied a team-high seven rebounds and added five points
- Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) dished out a game-high five assists and scored four points
- Junior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) contributed eight points
Muskingum Leaders (4-15, 2-10 OAC)
- Freshman guard Makiya Edwards tied a game-high seven rebounds
- Freshman guard Mckenna Baney assisted four times for the Fight Muskies
- Sophomore forward Mckinzie Linscott led the team with 13 points
1st Quarter (BW 23-9)
- The Muskies got on the board first but BW answered by rattling off nine straight
- McCoy took two threes and sank them both to lead the team with six points in the first period
- The Brown and Gold shot 57% from beyond the arc
2nd Quarter (BW 35-20)
- Sophomore guard Maddie Ebbert (Lake Orion, Mich.) grabbed four rebounds including three in the same possession
- Junior Academic All-OAC Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) made two free-throws to finish 4-of-4 at the line
- BW got out to a 10-2 start but Muskingum ended the half on a 9-2 run of their own
3rd Quarter (BW 49-31)
- Sophomore guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) scored five of her seven points on the day
- Irwin beat the buzzer to give the Yellow Jackets a 16-point lead going into the final frame
- McCoy recorded two of her three takeawys
4th Quarter (BW 74-52)
- Freshman guard Grace Heliger (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) recorded a new career-high with four points
- Badylak drained a three and made two free-throws to give her five points in the quarter
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, February 5 as they travel to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at 7 p.m. inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
