Softball Splits Season Opener on Day One of Space Coast Spring Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened the 2025 season as it split a pair of non-conference games at the Space Coast Spring Games at the Space Coast Softball Complex.

BW (1-1) defeated Webster (Mo.) University (0-5) by a final score of 8-0 in five innings to jump start the season.  The Yellow Jackets closed out the day by falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College (2-5)

Against Webster, BW scored eight runs on 12 hits as it plated four runs in the first inning, including the inside the park home run by sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) in her first bat as a Yellow, three in the third and one in the fifth.  The Gorlocks were held scoreless on three hits.
 
At the Plate
  • Peterkoski went 2-for-3 with a homer, run scored, run batted-in (RBI) and walk
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, run scored and walk
  • Freshman right fielder Lexi Gray (Tallmadge) went 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI
  • Six other BW hitters had a base knock
In the Circle
  • Senior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) picked up the win as she did not allow a run on three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk
Against Wisconsin Lutheran, the Yellow Jackets scored five runs on nine hits as it plated one run in the third and four in the fourth.   The Warriors scored eight runs on six hits as they pushed all eight runs across the plate in the fourth.

At the Plate
  • Peterkoski went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two walks
  • Junior All-OAC designated hitter Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs scored, three RBIs and a walk
  • Junior All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs
  • Three other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by the triple from senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark)
In the Circle
  • Lester took the loss as she allowed six runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 3.1 innings.
  • Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, March 11 when they continue play at the Space Coast Spring Games with non-conference games against Wheaton (Ill.) College and Emerson (Mass.) College at 2:30 and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
