MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept a pair of non-conference games at the Space Coast Spring Games at the Space Coast Softball Complex.
BW (3-1) defeated Wheaton (Ill.) College (1-3) by a final score of 3-2 in the opener and then defeated Emerson (Mass.) College (2-4) in the nightcap by a final score of 5-1.
Against Wheaton, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on four hits as it plated one run in the third inning on the inside the park homerun by senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder
Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) and two in the fifth. The Thunder scored two runs on four hits as they pushed both runs across the plate in the first.
At the Plate
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 1-for-2 with a triple, run scored, run batted-in (RBI), walk and stolen base
- Coggins went 1-for-2 with a homer, run scored and RBI
In the Circle
- Junior All-OAC right hander Maddie Lester (Boardman) won her first game of the season as she threw a four hit complete game while allowing two unearned runs with three strikeouts and three walks
Against Emerson, BW scored five runs on nine hits as it plated two runs in the first, one on the third and two in the fifth. The Lions scored one run on two hits as they pushed their lone run in the seventh.
At the Plate
- Senior catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs
- Peterkoski went 2-for-4
- Four other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock highlighted by a triple from Wolford
In the Circle
- Senior All-OAC righty Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) picked up her second win of the season as she did not allow a run on two hits with three strikeouts in six innings.
- Senior right hander Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) pitched the final inning and allowed a run on no hits.
BW is back in action on Thursday, March 13 when it continues play at the Space Coast Spring Games with non-conference games against Cornell (Iowa) College and Grinnell (Iowa) College at 2:30 and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
