MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept a pair of non-conference games at the Space Coast Spring Games at the Space Coast Softball Complex.
BW (5-1) defeated Grinnell (Iowa) College (0-1) by a final score of 6-3 in the opener. The Yellow Jackets defeated NAIA the University of Northwestern Ohio (7-5) in the nightcap by a final score of 4-3.
Against Grinnell, BW scored six runs on 12 hits as it plated three runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Pioneers scored three runs on five hits as they pushed all three runs across the plate in the seventh
At the Plate
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 4-for-4 with a run scored, two runs batted-in (RBIs) and two stolen bases
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-3
- Six other BW batters had a base knock
In the Circle
- Senior All-OAC righty Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) earned her third win as she allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks in 6.1 innings pitched
- Senior right hander Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout and walk
Against Northwestern Ohio, the Yellow Jackets scored four runs on six hits as it plated one run in the first and three in the fifth. The Racers scored three runs on eight hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the third and two in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Peterkoski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs
- Ryser went 1-for-3 with an RBI
In the Circle
- Junior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) picked up her first career collegiate as she allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
- Hall earned her first save of the year as she did not allow a run on one hit in the final inning pitched
BW closes out its spring break trip to the Sunshine State and the Space Coast Spring Games as it plays a pair of non-conference games against Monmouth (Ill.) College and Nebraska Wesleyan University at 12:30 and 2:15 p.m., respectively.
