No. 7 Women's Basketball Tips Off NCAA Tournament with First Round Win Over La Roche (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 7 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team opened the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament by defeating La Roche (Pa.) University in the First Round by a final score of 63-53 in Usprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (27-1) advances to the Second Round on Saturday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. where they will host No. 19 nationally ranked Washington & Lee (Va.) University. La Roche (22-6) ends their season.

BW Leaders

  • Senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) was one point shy of a double-double as she finished with 11 rebounds, nine points, and two assists
  • Junior Academic All-OAC guard/forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) recorded a nine-point, nine-rebound game 
  • Senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) was the third Jacket with nine points and added four assists and four rebounds
  • Senior All-OAC forward Bella Vaillant (Perrysburg) finished with six points and six rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) led the team with four steals and added five points and five rebounds
  • Junior Academic All-OAC forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) scored eight points
La Roche Leaders
  • Senior guard/forward Alexis Robison scored a game-high 16 points
  • Junior guard Jazmine Dunn finished with a statline of 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocks
  • Senior forward Dasja Anderson also finished in double-figures with 10 points and five rebounds

1st Quarter (BW 16-12)

  • The Yellow Jackets owned the boards by a 15-5 margin
  • The BW defense forced eight La Roche turnovers

2nd Quarter (BW 34-14)

  • The Brown and Gold shot 44% from the field while allowing only one Redhawk field goal
  • Jones recorded three of her four steals on the day

3rd Quarter (BW 49-33)

  • Ressler and Miller each grabbed three rebounds
  • La Roche closed the quarter on a 15-4 run
4th Quarter (BW 63-53)
  • The Redhawks cut the lead to five with four minutes to play but a three from sophomore guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) gave BW a cushion
  • Miller scored five of her nine to seal the game for the Jackets
