Softball Sweeps Marietta in Rescheduled OAC Doubleheader

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Marietta College in a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Marietta Field.

BW (19-2, 9-1 OAC) and Marietta (14-8, 2-6 OAC) were originally scheduled to play on April 5 but due to inclement weather the games were postponed until today.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on 12 hits as it plated two runs in the first and second innings and three in the sixth.  The Pioneers scored five runs on five hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the sixth and four in the seventh.

At the Plate
  • Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 4-for-4 with a career-high three runs scored
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Junior All-OAC designated player/right-handed pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs
  • Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), who is this week's OAC Hitter of the Week, went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 1-for-3 with a RBI and stolen base
  • Sophomore third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 1-for-2 with a career-best tying two runs scored
  • Junior right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 1-for-4
In the Circle
  • Senior All-OAC right Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, earned her 11th win of the season as she allowed zero runs on two hits with strikeouts and two walks in six innings pitched
  • Lester allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits with a strikeout and two walks in an inning pitched
In game two, BW scored 13 runs on a season-best tying 16 hits as it plated one run in the first and third innings, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh.  Marietta scored eight runs on 11 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first inning, two in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

At the Plate
  • Wolford went 4-for-4 with a homerun, three runs scored, career-high six RBIs and walk
  • Lester went 3-for-5 with two RBIs
  • Ryser went 2-for-5 with an RBI
  • Bricker went 3-for-4 with a double, homerun, run scored and two RBIs
  • Mraz went 1-for-4 with a walk
  • Maddamma went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk
  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 1-for-5 with a run scored
  • Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 1-for-4 with a career-high three runs scored
In the Circle
  • Hall got the start and the no decisions as she allowed six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 3.1 innings pitched
  • Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) won her fourth game of the season as she allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to Tiffin for an OAC doubleheader against Heidelberg University on Frann's Field at 3 p.m.
