No. 25 Softball Continues Winning Ways, Sweeps OAC Doubleheader Over Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio –
The No. 25 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University softball team continued its dominant season by sweeping an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader over Heidelberg University at Frann's Field.
 
In game one, BW (20-2, 10-1 OAC) scored a season-high 15 runs on a season-best17 hits as it plated nine runs in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the fifth. Heidelberg (15-14, 5-6 OAC) scored one run on three hits with a single run coming in the third inning.
 
At the Plate
  • Sophomore Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 3-for-4 with a career-high tying three runs batted-in (RBIs) and career-best tying three runs scored
  • Junior left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) was 3-for-4 with a career-high three RBIs and a run scored
  • Junior All-OAC designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, RBI, and stolen base
  • Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) reached base four times, including a career-best three walks, and scored twice
  • Freshman pinch hitter Emily Dunlap (Strongsville) picked up her first collegiate hit and RBI
  • Senior third baseman Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and freshman outfielder Shannon Wyatt (Mason) each delivered pinch-hit singles and scored
In the Circle
  • Senior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) picked up her 12th win of the season, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings
  • Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) pitched a scoreless fifth inning with one strikeout
In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on 12 hits, pushing across two in the first, one each in the second, third and fourth, and three in the sixth. The Student Princes scored five runs on eight hits, including a late seventh-inning rally that came up short.
 
At the Plate
  • Peterkoski went 2-for-5 with two runs scored
  • Junior All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald), who is this week's OAC Hitter of the Week, was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, three runs scored, walk, and stolen base
  • Lester added another 2-for-4 effort with a double, two RBIs and a run scored
  • Ryser went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base
  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two singles
  • Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London), Coggins, and Bricker also added hits for BW 
In the Circle
  • Hall earned her second win of the day and 13th of the season with a complete-game effort, allowing five runs (just two earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk over seven innings
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 16, when they host Grove City College in a non-conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
