BEREA, Ohio – The No. 25 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University softball team continued its winning ways by sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Grove City (Pa.) College on Wednesday afternoon on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.
In game one, BW (23-2) scored seven runs on 13 hits as it scored three runs in the third and four in the second. Grove City (20-9) scored one run on 10 hits as it pushed its lone run across the plate in the fifth inning.
At the Plate
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, and two runs scored
- Sophomore center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with a double, run batted-in (RBI) and a walk
- Nine other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock, including doubles from senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), junior All-OAC designated player/right handed pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman), junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard), junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald), who is this week's OAC Hitter of the Week, and sophomore first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg), which was her first collegiate double
In the Circle
- Senior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) earned her 14th win of the season, allowing just one run on ten hits with three strikeouts in a complete-game effort
In game two, BW scored 10 runs on 11 hits as it played one run in the second inning, three in the third and sixth on the sixth. The Wolverines scored four runs on five hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first and second innings.
At the Plate
- Junior right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 3-for-4 with a career-high tying three RBIs
- Lester went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs
- Six Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock, including doubles by Bricker and Wolford
- Sophomore designated player Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), Bricker, Coggins, and Peterkoski all had an RBI
In the Circle
- Lester got the started and no decision as she allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings pitched
- Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) picked up her fifth win of the season as she did not allow a run on one hit with two strikeouts in the final 4.1 innings.
BW returns to action on Friday when it hosts an OAC doubleheader at the BW Softball Field against Otterbein University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
