BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Geneva (Pa.) College in a rescheduled doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.
BW (13-1), who has now won 12 straight games, and Geneva (15-5) were originally scheduled to play on March 28, but weather and scheduling conflicts forced the game to today.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on 15 hits as they plated two runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, fourth and sixth. The Golden Tornadoes scored one run on one hit as they pushed their lone run across the plate in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 3-for-4 with a career-high tying two doubles, home run, run scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs)
- Junior All-OAC right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 3-for-3 with a run scored, RBI and stolen base
- Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base
In the Circle
- Senior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) threw a complete one hit game to earn her eighth win of the season. Hall allowed one unearned run with three strikeouts and three walks.
In game two BW, scored six runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the first and third innings, two in the fourth on the homerun by senior All-OAC catcher
Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and two in the eighth on the game-winning double by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop
Lucia Wolford (McDonald). Geneva scored five runs on nine hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the first and second innings and one in the eighth.
At the Plate
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, including the game winner, and an RBI
- Junior Academic All-OAC third baseman Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
In the Circle
- Junior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) got the start and no decision as she allowed four runs on six hits with a strikeout and walk in 1.2 innings pitched
- Lester earned her third win of the season as she allowed one unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts and five walks in the final 6.1 innings.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 5 when they travel to Marietta for an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College on Marietta Field at 1 p.m.
