OBERLIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team defeated Oberlin College in a non-conference game on Culhane Filed inside Dolcemaschio Stadium. The originally schedule doubleheader was shortened to just one game as rain forced the cancelation of game two.
BW (14-1), who has now won 13 straight games, scored 14 runs on 13 hits as they plated five runs in the first and second innings and four in the third. Oberlin (2-19) scored three runs on three hits as it pushed all three runs across the plate in the fourth.
At the Plate
- Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two runs batted-in (RBIs)
- Junior All-OAC designated player/right-handed pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, three RBIs and a sacrifice fly
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-2 with a career-high tying three runs scored and a walk
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-3 with a career-best tying three runs scored, an RBI and walk
- Junior right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-3 with a career-best two doubles, one run scored and a career-high tying three RBIs
- Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), who this week's OAC Hitter of the Week, went 1-for-2 with a homerun, two runs scored, three RBIs and a walk
- Sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and walk
In the Circle
- Senior All-OAC righty Marisa Hall (Paris/Easton), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, earned her ninth win of the season as she did not allow a run or hit with two strikeouts in two innings pitched
- Lester came in relief and pitched the two innings and allowed three runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks
- Freshman right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) made her collegiate debut in the circle as she did not allow a run or hit in the final inning
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 9 when they host an OAC doubleheader against the University of Mount Union on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
