No. 19 Softball Falls to Mount Union in OAC Tournament Championship

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 19 nationally ranked and top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to second-seeded University Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

BW (31-4), who was the tournament runner-up for the second time in the last three seasons and for the sixth time in school history, will now wait to see if it hosts an NCAAA Division III Tournament Regional as an at-large bid in the tournament.

Mount Union (27-12), who wins its fourth OAC Tournament Title, earns the automatic bid into the national tournament.

Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) and sophomore left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Yellow Jackets scored two runs on five hits as they plated one run in the fourth inning on the solo homerun by junior All-OAC designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman) and one in the seventh.  The Purple Raiders scored eight runs on 11 hits as they pushed three runs in the second inning, one in the fourth and fifth and three in the sixth.

At the Plate
  • Senior Academic All-OAC center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermillion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Peterkoski went 2-for-4 with a run batted-in (RBI)
  • Lester went 1-for-4 with a homerun, run scored and RBI
In the Circle
  • Senior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) suffered the loss as she allowed eight runs on 11 hits with strikeouts and four walks
