No. 19 Softball Cruises Past Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Regional Tournament Opener

ANGOLA, Ind. – The No. 19 nationally ranked and second-seeded Baldwin Wallace University softball team defeated third-seeded University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire in a NCAA Division III Regional Tournament game hosted by Trine University by a final score of 13-3 in five innings on SportOne/Parkview Softball Field.

BW (32-4) advances to face top-seeded Trine on Friday, May 16 in a winners bracket game at 11 a.m.  Eau Claire (27-15) takes on fourth-seeded the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m.  The winner between Eau-Claire and Pitt-Greensburg will face the loser of the BW and Trine game at 4 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets scored 13 runs on 12 hits as they plated two runs in the second inning and erupted for 11 runs in the third inning.  The Bluegolds scored three runs on six hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first inning and one in the third.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted-in
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 2-for-3 with a career-best tying three runs scored and an RBI
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI
  • Sophomore All-OAC third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and a career-high tying three RBIs
  •  Four other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by the double from All-OAC designated player Maddie Lester (Boardman), who added two runs scored and an RBI

In the Circle

  • Senior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) earned her 19th win of the season as she allowed three runs on six hits with a strikeout and two walks
