SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team competed at the Wittenberg Fall Classic hosted by Wittenberg University. The Jackets split day one defeating Ohio Wesleyan University before dropping their second match of the day to Transylvania University. On Saturday, they fell to host team Wittenberg in straight sets.
BW (4-6) began the weekend sweeping Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 27-25, 26-24 and 25-18 and falling 3-1 to Transylvania by scores of 25-10, 19-25, 25-12 and 26-24. The Jackets were swept by Wittenberg in their final match of the weekend by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18.Â
vs. OWU (3-5)
- Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla. / DeLand) led the Jackets with seven digs and 29 assistsÂ
- Junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill. / North) added 10 kills and nine digsÂ
- Sophomore outside hitter Lyla Nash (Berkey / Evergreen) led the team in kills with 11 while also adding three digsÂ
- Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Smith (Tiffin / Columbian) and sophomore middle hitter India Woodson (Oakwood Village / Bedford) both had six killsÂ
vs. Transylvania (6-4)
- Smith led the squad with 11 kills
- Blazetic once again led the team team in assists with 20Â
- Senior libero Paige Contris (Pemberville / Eastwood) had a team-high 15 digs while also giving out three assistsÂ
- Woodson and Smith both added two blocksÂ
vs. Wittenberg (5-4)
- Contris led the team in digs for a second straight match with 14Â
- Schlecht and Woodson each added four kills with Schlecht also contributing 6 digsÂ
- Blazetic finished the weekend with another match with 20 or more assists, giving out 20
- Freshman defensive specialist Morgan Kaylor (Galloway / Hilliard Bradley) and Blazetic added 7 digs eachÂ
Up NextÂ
- The Jackets are on the road again next weekend, September 19 and 20, in Buffalo, N.Y. to compete in the Bengal Challenge hosted by Buffalo State University. The Jackets will face off against host team Buffalo State (N.Y.), Penn State University Behrend (Pa.) and St. John Fisher University (N.Y.)
